Beard and Moustache Restoration

The hair is usually harvested from the back of the scalp (although hair can be taken from the chest and back as well) and then used to fill in the beard and/or moustache.  The procedure to remove the hair can be done with the FUE scarless method or the strip method depending upon the patient's desires.  Then, the areas to be filled in marked with the patient's approval and hundreds to even thousands of tiny incisions are made.  The hair grafts are then placed by hand one-by-one into the desired areas.

Just like the hair transplants to the scalp, local anesthesia only is used with a mild oral sedative.  The pain is minimal with about a 5-7 day recovery from the swelling because of the local anesthesia used.  The hair grows back slowly and the results can take up to 1 year since this is how long it takes for all of the hair to "wake up" from the telogen or hibernation stage.
